IS AIKIDO EFFECTIVE IN REAL LIFE?

Aikido aims to end a conflict as quickly as possible without harming anyone, including your enemy.

But it's preferable to avoid such conflict to happen.

Which is why most--if not all--techniques in Aikido are counterattacks.

In order to successfully apply Aikido techniques, one should be able to blend with his opponent's Ki--energy flow--then gain control over the fight from there. If performed correctly, Aikido techniques can be very effective as well as dangerous.

One interesting point is the more the opponent resists/intends to harm the Aikidoka, the more effective and hurtful the technique becomes. Based on these things, we can assure you that Aikido is really effective in a fight for defending oneself.

WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND AIKIDO?

Aikido is "Aiki", the power of harmony, of all beings, all things working together".

Aikido is primarily focused on budo - "way of martial arts" which has three levels of mastery (1) physical, (2) psychological and (3) spiritual.

It seems that the most logical step is the first: the physical. But during the years the main attractiveness is the psychological and spiritual. The basic idea is that harmony and love would bring much more benefits than plain old warfare and competition.

Forfeit the ego and be present in the energy of all things living.

Aikido is a mixture of psychical, psychological and spiritual. Energy and love are the key.
